Ruston Services has identified a need within the scientific community for a series of polymers and other materials of known and characterised behaviour by DSC, TGA and FTIR. A series of 14 individual polymer types and two filler materials have been prepared into a kit of approximately 10g of each material packed in individual containers.
The polymer kits include the following materials
1. EVA - Ethylene Vinyl Acetate
2. EVOH - Ethylene Vinyl Alcohol
3. LDPE - Low Density Polyethylene
4. LDPE - Recycled Low Density Polyethylene
5. LLDPE - Linear Low Density Polyethylene
6. MDPE - Medium Density Polyethylene
7. HDPE #1 - High Density Polyethylene
8. HDPE #2 - High Density Polyethylene
9. PET - Polyethylene Teraphthalate
10. PP #1 - Polypropylene Homopolymer
11. PP #2 - Polypropylene Copolymer
12. PA6 - Polyamide / Nylon 6
13. PA 66 - Polyamide / Nylon 66
14. PS - Polystyrene
15. C - Carbon Black
16. CaCO3 - Calcium Carbonate
Each material comes with its own data sheet in PDF format, which includes a DSC curve showing a heat-cool-reheat graph, characterised by peak temperatures for both heating runs, and the onset of crystallisation for the cooling runs. In the case of the recycled polyolefin material, the OIT (oxidation induction time) according to ASTM 3895 and ISO 11357-6 is given, based on a average of a minimum of five tests.
For the filler materials, TGA data curves are shown to demonstrate the material behaviour, both in air atmosphere and in nitrogen atmosphere.
Sample preparation information is included for all materials in the kit for all analyses which are included in the data sheets.
Data from characterisation by DSC and TGA curves is provided in several formats.
X-Y data in Microsoft Excel format, allowing the data to be imported into other types of thermal analysis software.
PerkinElmer Pyris format (version 9) for direct import into software for PerkinElmer DSC and TGA analysers. Note that older versions of PerkinElmer Pyris software cannot read data in this format directly.
For each material, the DSC and TGA methods used to characterise that material, including the temperature program are given in the PDF documentation supplied with the material kit. FTIR Characterisation data for each material showing spectra and search data outputs is included in each data sheet.
Characterisation data is provided on a USB memory stick.
Pricing
The kit of polymer materials and fillers is priced at £200. Pricing excludes shipping and UK VAT (where applicable)
