Tool for Cutting Parallel Samples with Perpendicular Cuts

At RSL, we know just how much work is needed to prepare good samples for analysis using DMA and TMA instrumentation. The quality of the results depends on precise parallel cuts and smooth edges. Getting that right can be difficult, especially on softer materials which do not lend themselves to final preparation and smoothing by rubbing them with sandpaper.

To help you to improve the speed and accuracy of your sample preparation while retaining the required sample shape, RSL have developed a new cutting tool which can make the required cuts, quickly and effortlessly. This will give you an immediate improvement in productivity, and will also help to minimise the sample preparation errors which can lead to variability in results.

And if your material range requires it, the cutter can quickly be modified to give wider or narrower cuts, making it possible for you to work within your DMA measurement range quickly and easily.

For TMA, especially for expansion measurements, the cutter will produce cleanly sliced cuts with parallel, flat ends to comply with the sample preparations requirements for ASTM E831 and ISO 11359-2

Features

• Cutting blades can cut up to 81mm sample length.
• Adjustable width from 2mm to 13mm in 1mm steps.
• Blades have high speed steel cutting edges which can be re-sharpened, or the entire blade replaced for a low price.
• The attachment to a toggle press is available as standard with either 10mm or 12mm spigot. Other spigot types are available for special order – please inquire.
• Tool comes complete with four blades.
• Accessory kit includes tools needed for cut width adjustments.
• Cuts samples with thicknesses up to 5mm, but best results are obtained with samples up to 2mm thickness.
• Self-healing A5 size cutting mat included.
• Operating and installation instructions.

Optional Cutter Press

A suitable press to use with the DMA sample cutter is available from Ruston Services – please inquire. The press we supply has a 1.2kN cutting force, with a 60mm stroke which will deal with most sample types used with the cutting tool.
